No more teases, no more rumors. The Ocean gang is getting back together for one more heist, and this time the confirmation is coming straight from Danny Ocean himself, George Clooney. While at NYFF promoting his latest film, Jay Kelly, Clooney confirmed to E! News that Ocean’s 14 is ready to go with a locked budget and potential shooting schedule…
“We just got the budget approved at Warner Brothers, and we’re trying to set up — it’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us. Probably start in about nine or ten months, shooting.”
Not only that, but Clooney was all smiles to talk about a reunion with some of his buddies…
“Yeah, Brad [Pitt], Matt [Damon] and Don [Cheadle] and Julia [Roberts]. I had dinner last night with Julia. They’re all still really dear friends. And so, the chance to work together would be fun.”
So the next question is, who is going to direct this thing? Because Steven Soderbergh has long since pulled himself out of the running after directing the first three movies. The most recent rumor is Bullet Train and The Fall Guy director David Leitch. He’s worked with Pitt in the past, so it would be a logical move.
That said, the most logical choice, in my opinion, is for Clooney to direct it himself. He has directed nine movies, most of them either pretty good or great including Good Night and Good Luck, The Ides of March, and most recently 2023’s The Boys in the Boat. But he’s never directed a heist movie before. Now would be a pretty good time to start.
