So, we might be waiting a while longer for that reunion of Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze, teased in recent days. During ThePlaylist‘s conversation with Kaufman and screenwriter Eva H.D. about their new short film How To Shoot A Ghost, Kaufman shot down the rumors while still leaving the door cracked open.
“I’m glad that you asked about that because that’s completely not true”, Kaufman said. “It’s not what I said in Brazil. What I said is—because I was asked, am I ever going to work with Spike again?—and I said, I would like to. And I’ve talked to Spike about it. And we have no plans currently. That’s what I said. And then somehow it got turned into this.”
In short, Kaufman and Jonze are talking again, but the claims they have a project in the works are exaggerated. Got it.
Kaufman also denied writing for an unproduced Jones project for Netflix, as some have claimed.
As for what’s next, Kaufman is still attempting to get Later the War off the ground, but continues to have financing issues…
“We’re trying to get financing for ‘Later The War.’ That’s ongoing,” Kaufman said. “We’ll see. I don’t really have anything much to report about it, except that we’re trying.”
