Jennifer’s Body just won’t quit. More than fifteen years after the Megan Fox-led horror flick’s release, when it was widely panned by critics, the film has quietly become a cult favorite for its intended audience. Writer Diablo Cody still loves that world, which is why she decided that her most recent film, Lisa Frankenstein, exists in that same world. Star Amanda Seyfried has been teasing the possibility of a sequel, and now director Karyn Kusama says it’s actually happening.
Speaking with Deadline, Kusama said that Cody is currently writing the script for Jennifer’s Body 2…
“I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it. I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”
Released in 2009, Jennifer’s Body starred Megan Fox as a hot high schooler who is sacrificed by a touring band leader. She becomes a succubus, devouring the flesh of any boys she easily lures into her web. Seyfried played her shy best friend who must stop her rampage. The film made $31M at the box office and was considered a flop at the time.
I can’t see there being a huge audience for this, but some circles will definitely welcome a sequel. Kusama hasn’t directed a film since Destroyer in 2018, but her filmography is strong and largely geared towards strong female leads. This includes her work on the hit series Yellowjackets, where she is an exec-producer.
