While Jordan Peele produced the upcoming football horror HIM, the last movie he directed was 2022’s Nope, which was highly divisive. There have been issues getting a fourth film rolling creatively, which is why it has had two different release dates. Originally set for Christmas 2024, it was moved to October 23rd 2026. And now, well, it’s off Universal’s 2026 schedule completely.
Universal has pulled Peele’s untitled fourth movie off the calendar for next year. Peele has gone through a couple of ideas for what his next movie is going to be, and it’s possible he’s starting over from scratch again.
A source noted by World of Reel says Peele “doesn’t yet know what his next movie will be.” That’s not a big deal, but it does suggest it could be a very long wait until Peele gets back behind the camera.
After years as half of a comedy duo, Peele broke out as a filmmaker with 2017’s Get Out, which earned $255M and became a cultural phenomenon. I would argue it’s been diminishing returns ever since. 2019’s Us actually made more at the box office with $256M but is it a film people still talk about? Not really. The same goes for Nope, which finished with $171M. All three prove Peele is a director with bold visions and the means to bring them to life. He’s going to take all the time he needs and no studio is going to rush him.
