WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre Joins ‘Highlander’ Reboot With Henry Cavill And Dave Bautista

Pro wrestlers are being cast in major films more than ever right now. Just look at that insane Street Fighter cast, which is loaded from top to bottom with superstars from the WWE, New Japan, and more. And now you can add WWE superstar Drew McIntyre to the list of grapplers headed to the big screen, as he’s joined the cast of Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot.

The Scottish ass-kicker and 2-time WWE World Champion will play Angus McLeod, brother to Henry Cavill’s lead character, Connor McLeod. Another former WWE superstar, Dave Bautista, will play the villainous Kurgan, responsible for the deaths of many immortals over thousands of years. McIntyre and Bautista previously worked together on The Killer’s Game, an underrated flick if you ask me.

In the original movie, Angus was Connor’s cousin and was portrayed by James Cosmo, so this is a significant character change.

I should say that this isn’t really out of the ordinary for Highlander, because the 1986 movie actually featured a bunch of wrestlers including “Jumping” Jim Brunzel, Greg Gagne, Michael P.S. Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts.

McIntyre joins an impressive cast that includes Michael Finch, also stars Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.

Highlander begins shooting early next year following Cavill’s recent injury during training. [Deadline]
