This morning, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto used the latest Nintendo Direct to reveal the teaser trailer for the next Mario movie. The title was also revealed to be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, based on the hit 2007 outer space platformer that launched a Wii sequel in 2010. The original Super Mario Bros. Movie earned $1.3B in 2023.
The teaser sweeps us through the Mushroom Kingdom where we see a sleeping Mario, Princess Peach’s castle, and more. While the music teases Super Mario World, a quick dash into the stars confirms the title as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, accompanied by a cute blue star Luma, who is in both games. A very nihilistic Luma stole scenes in the first movie, too.
Illumination’s Chris Melandri took over and announced the return of voice stars Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson. Sadly, nothing about Seth Rogen returning as Donkey Kong, but that’s probably because DK has his own movie in the works.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters April 3rd 2026.
