After years of leading some of the most successful female-led comedies ever, Paul Feig has been exploring a much darker side of late with A Simple Favor and its recent sequel. But those films are nothing compared to his latest, the psychological thriller The Housemaid, which stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel franchise.
Penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine, The Housemaid stars Sweeney as a woman with a mysteriously checkered past who becomes live-in housemaid to a wealthy couple, only to unearth dark secrets beneath the surface.
The film also stars Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins.
McFadden has published two more sequels to The Handmaid, so if this one turns out to be a hit when released on December 19th, don’t be surprised if Lionsgate comes back for more. If you can keep stars like Sweeney and Seyfried around for the long haul, you do it.
