It’s unclear if or when we’ll get a new Star Trek movie on the big screen. For years, Paramount has been struggling to get one going with the JJ Abrams crew, but nothing seems to stick. Strangely, there was a stretch when Quentin Tarantino was writing an R-rated film and, sadly, that didn’t go anywhere, either. Of course, people have been wanting to get their hands on that screenplay to see just how wild it would’ve been. Well, Simon Pegg has seen it, and according to him, it does not disappoint.
Speaking with Collider at Fan Expo Boston, Pegg talked about Tarantino’s Star Trek, which he was working on with The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith. He said the script was “batshit crazy” and was unsure how fans would’ve reacted to it…
“That was what we call in the business batshit crazy. It was everything you would expect a Quentin Tarantino ‘Star Trek’ script to be…I don’t know how it would have gone over with the fans, but it certainly would have been an interesting thing.”
I can tell you exactly how it would’ve gone over; like a lead balloon. Fans of classic Trek would’ve destroyed it, but Tarantino’s rabid followers would’ve eaten it up.
As for Star Trek 4, Pegg expressed optimism that the recent Paramount/Skydance merger could move things forward as David Ellison is a proponent of the Abrams-produced movies…
“Now the merger’s happened, and David’s always been a big supporter of the Kelvin timeline. So who knows, maybe we’ll get to make another one.”
