Following the franchise-record $285M of Final Destination Bloodlines, it seems Death is going back to work. Warner Bros. and New Line have officially put a sequel in the works, setting ‘Bloodlines’ co-writer Lori Evans Taylor to pen the seventh installment solo.
This was a no-brainer move. ‘Bloodlines’ only cost about $50M, another high for the rebooted franchise. These movies can get made for a song. Remember, the first Final Destination in 2000 only cost $23M and earned $112M. They’ve always turned a decent profit.
Overall, the franchise has earned New Line $983M, making it the studio’s third-biggest horror franchise behind The Conjuring and It. Not bad company to keep.
Taylor has plenty of horror experience outside of Final Destination. She previously wrote and directed the 2022 supernatural horror Bed Rest starring Melissa Barrera. Taylor also wrote the 2024 thriller Cellar Door with Jordana Brewster and Scott Speedman.
Final Destination Bloodlines saw a new group of youngsters surviving a mass casualty event, only for Death to get pissed off and kill them one by one. Characters tend not to carry over into further chapters, other than the late Tony Todd’s William Bludworth, so expect a brand new cast next time. While no director has been named, these movies can be shot quickly and could be ready as soon as 2026.
