Having a hard time picturing anyone other than Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo? Well, start getting used to it, because Deadline reports Noah Centineo is set to play Rambo in the upcoming prequel film from Millennium Media.
Sisu director Jelmari Helander will direct John Rambo, an origin film about the young soldier’s time during the Vietnam War. Author David Morrell created the character in his 1972 novel First Blood, which was then adapted into the classic 1982 movie starring Stallone as the PTSD-afflicted veteran.
The new film will have a script from Black Adam writers Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. They worked with Centineo on that DCEU film, so perhaps that played a role?
Centineo recently got a little battlefield experience in Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Warfare. He starred in Netflix series The Recruit for two seasons until it was canceled earlier this year, but he’s still probably known most fondly for Netflix’s hit trilogy To All the Boys I Loved Before. Coming up for him is playing Ken Masters in that nutty Street Fighter live-action movie that’s coming together at Legendary.
As for Stallone, he still has no involvement with this new Rambo project, but he has been informed about Centineo’s involvement. What do you think his reaction was?
