Well, it didn’t take Luca Guadagnino long to find something new to replace Sgt. Rock, the DC Comics film that got shelved recently. Deadline reports Guadagnino is in line to direct Artificial for Amazon MGM, and an impressive lineup of stars is close to joining him on the OpenAI drama.
Andrew Garfield, A Complete Unknown‘s Monica Barbaro, and Anora breakout Yura Borisov are in early talks to join the Artificial cast.
Penned by Simon Rich, the story could be set in 2023 at artificial intelligence company OpenAI at the time CEO Sam Altman was fired due to a lack of confidence in his leadership, only for him to be rehired a few days later when employees and investors complained.
Artificial will be a reunion between Guadagnino and Amazon MGM. It will release his next film, After the Hunt, in theaters this October, and released Challengers last year.
Garfield was last seen opposite Florence Pugh in We Live in Time, and has a role in Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. He also stars in Simon Farnaby’s The Magic Faraway Tree. Barbaro earned raves for her acting and vocal performance as Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown. Next up for her is Crime 101 opposite Chris Hemsworth. Borisov was a surprise Academy Award nominee for his scene-stealing turn in Best Picture winner, Anora.
