‘Ponyboi’ Trailer: Dylan O’Brien And River Gallo Star Star In Sex Worker Drama Arriving In June

Last year was a career-changing time for Dylan O’Brien, as he earned positive reviews for his performances in Caddo Lake and Saturday Night. But it was the buzz O’Brien received for Ponyboi following its Sundance 2024 world premiere that kicked it all off, and after a long wait the sex worker drama is finally coming to theaters this summer.

Colombian filmmaker Esteban Arango had previously made a splash at Sundance in 2020 with Blast Beat, and returned four years later with Ponyboi. The film stars O’Brien and intersex actor River Gallo, who also wrote the screenplay based on their short story.

Also in the cast are Murray Bartlett, Victoria Pedretti, and Indya Moore. Gallo, acting in their feature debut, is also a producer on the film.

Here’s the synopsis: Unfolding over the course of a single day, a young sex worker named Ponyboi (Gallo) is thrown into chaos when a drug deal goes wrong, forcing him to go on the run from the mob and his abusive pimp (O’Brien). With the help of a mysterious cowboy, Bruce (Bartlett), “Ponyboi” journeys through New Jersey’s underbelly on a quest for freedom.

Ponyboi arrives during Pride Month on June 27th from FOX Entertainment Studios & GATHR.
