It’s tough to believe, but the Now You See Me franchise is twelve years old (!!!), and it’s not even close to ending. Feels like a lifetime ago that the Four Horsemen’s first cinematic heist movie was my most anticipated of the year. The franchise has never lived up to my high expectations, but they have been successful for Lionsgate. This week at CinemaCon, Lionsgate revealed the third movie’s official title, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, and confirmed another sequel is in the works.
The Now You See Me films center on The Four Horsemen, a group of illusionists who also pull off daring heists and fight crime. Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Morgan Freeman reprise their roles from the previous movies, while Isla Fisher returns in the threequel after taking one movie off due to her pregnancy. She was replaced in Now You See Me 2 by Lizzy Caplan, who is not returning.
Now You See Me 3 features two generations of magicians, with the young upstarts played by Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow), and Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers).
Ruben Fleischer directs the third movie and will return for the fourth. The first movie earned $350M worldwide while the sequel was nearly as successful with $334M.
“Directing ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ was as much fun as making any movie in my career,” Fleischer said. “It combines two of my favorite things — heist movies and magic — and working with this incredible cast was truly magical. Of course I want to keep it going.”
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t hits theaters on November 14th. [Variety]
