‘Eddington’ Trailer: Ari Aster’s Anxiety-Fueled Film Stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, And Emma Stone

COVID drove this country crazy in ways I still don’t think we’re ready to accept. Some people will be changed forever. The anxiety they had during that period will never go away. And if there’s a director who can adequately capture that heightened feeling it’s the guy who gave us one of the most stressful movies in recent memory, Beau is Afraid. That would be Ari Aster, of course, who is bringing his new film Eddington to Cannes. But first, here’s a teaser trailer featuring the starry cast.

Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal star as the sheriff and mayor of Eddington, New Mexico, and its their central conflict that drives the people of this town on a chaotic chain of events.

The interesting thing about this brief teaser is how it captures that “doomscrolling” feel that we all had during that time. Some of us still have it now.

Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau co-star. The great cinematographer Darius Khonji will be lensing the film. He recently worked on Mickey 17 and Josh Safdie’s upcoming drama Marty Supreme.

SYNOPSIS: In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.

Eddington will compete for the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Following that, A24 will release it into theaters on July 18th.
