‘Resident Evil’: Best Actress Mikey Madison Reportedly Offered Lead In Franchise Reboot

Following Mikey Madison’s Best Actress Oscar win for Anora, the 26-year-old actress has her pick of films to do next. But what she chooses as her immediate follow-up is crucial. Could it be a role in Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot?

According to a report from World of Reel, Madison has been offered the female lead in Resident Evil. The film recently cast another young, red-hot actor in Austin Abrams, who will reportedly play a hapless courier tasked with delivering to a remote hospital in the middle of a viral outbreak and must survive an attack by mutated creatures.

Mikey Madison and Austin Abrams slaughtering zombies? Yes, please.

Is this the right move for Madison to make, though? This would be her second franchise role after starring in 2022’s Scream. She also had a small part in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a role that convinced Sean Baker to cast her in Anora.

Cregger, formerly one of The Whitest Kids U Know comedy troupe, directed his breakout horror Barbarian in 2022 and is following that with Weapons this summer. Resident Evil is expected to begin shooting just weeks later in the fall, in time to hit theaters on September 18th 2026.
