After the critical acclaim of The Iron Claw, director Sean Durkin and A24 are teaming up once again. Durkin’s next film will be Deep Cuts, an adaptation of Holly Brickley’s novel, and it’s already got two high-powered stars and Oscar nominees attached.
Deadline reports Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler will star in Deep Cuts for Sean Durkin. Brickley’s novel is only days old, and Durkin, who will adapt the screenplay, was quick to jump on it. Josh Safdie is among the film’s producers, but at this point he does not seem to have an acting role.
The story is described as a “love story about two music-obsessed twentysomethings navigating the messy realities of ambition, belonging and adulthood over the course of an era-defining decade.”
Ronan is only 30 years and already a 4-time Academy Award nominee for Brooklyn, Lady Bird, Atonement, and Little Women. Last year she kept busy with The Outrun and Steve McQueen’s Blitz.
Butler has achieved a lot in a short amount of time, as well. He was an Academy Award nominee for his performance in Elvis. He recently starred in Dune: Part II and The Bikeriders. Next up for him is Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing and Eddington for Ari Aster.
