‘The Beekeeper’ Sequel Lands ‘Killers’ Director Timo Tjahjanto

Jason Statham has found a lot of success in his career, but usually as part of an ensemble or a studio blockbuster. As a solo star, he scored his biggest hit last year with The Beekeeper, an indulgent, violent action flick directed by David Ayer. Audiences just ate it up, watching him beat down telemarketers, scammers, and politicians. We knew there’d be a sequel, but now we know it won’t be Ayer behind the camera as Deadline reports Timo Tjahjanto will direct Statham in The Beekeeper 2 for Miramax.

Tjahjanto is the Indonesian filmmaker behind such awesome action flicks as The Shadow Strays, The Night Comes for Us, Killers, and Headshot. He’s currently working on the sequel Nobody 2, and it seems that Hollywood has taken notice.

As for Ayer, it’s not really a shock that he’s not returning. He’s busy working with Brad Pitt on The Heart of the Beast, but could return as a producer.

Kurt Wimmer will return as screenwriter, with camera expected to roll this fall. It’s unclear if Amazon MGM Studios will take distribution as they did with The Beekeeper, but considering what a smash hit that one was it should happen. Miramax will likely aim for a release date in early 2026.
