It was supposed to be Mahershala Ali and director Bassam Tariq teaming up for Marvel’s Blade. However, that film’s creative woes led to the latter dropping out, while Ali continues to wait as he has for the last five years. Fortunately, the two are getting to work together on something altogether different for Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.
Deadline reports Ali will star in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, written and directed by Tariq. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but hopefully, more info will emerge once Ali gets some co-stars.
I feel like that title might change. It’s deeply unappealing.
This will be Tariq’s sophomore effort following 2020’s Mogul Mowgli, an award-winning hip-hop film that he made with Riz Ahmed.
Ali is a two-time Academy Award winner for Moonlight and Green Book. He was last seen in Netflix’s Leave the World Behind and will try to survive dinosaurs this summer in Jurassic World Rebirth. Also coming up for the actor is Cary Fukunaga’s ’77 Blackout, a crime thriller starring Tom Hardy.
As for Blade? It’s still in limbo. And as I’ve said before, I don’t think that movie ever happens, at least not with Ali attached.
