We’re in a time when a woman’s right to make her own healthcare choices has been severely limited, so a future where parenthood is tightly controlled doesn’t seem so farfetched. Fleur Fortune’s sci-fi film The Assessment stars Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander, and Himesh Patel, and Magnolia Pictures has just dropped a new trailer for the film arriving next month!
In The Assessment, extreme climate change has led to a shortage of resources, with the government putting a strict limit on reproduction. Vikander and Patel play a couple who desire to start a family, but must convince an assessor, played by Vikander, who moves into their home to study them for a week.
Fortune is the latest in a long line of directors who cut their teeth directing music videos, such as David Fincher, Spike Jonze, and Jeymes Samuel.
Others in the cast include Minnie Driver, Indira Varma, Nicholas Pinnock, Charlotte Ritchie, and Leah Harvey. John Donnelly, Nell Garfath Cox, and Dave Thomas collaborated on the screenplay.
SYNOPSIS: In the near future, where parenthood is strictly controlled, a couple’s seven-day assessment for the right to have a child unravels into a psychological nightmare, forcing them to question the very foundations of their society and what it truly means to be human.
The Assessment opens in theaters on March 21st.
