‘The Monkey’ Clip: Osgood Perkins’ ‘Longlegs’ Follow-Up Looks Like A Dark, Hilarious Blast

So, was Longlegs a little too grim for you? The movie proved to be a smashing success both at the box office and with critics, but maybe it just wasn’t your speed? Well, director Osgood Perkins has something a little bit different coming in February. The Monkey is based on a Stephen King short, and based on this new clip released on Christmas it’s going to be…well, a bit of a tonal shift.

The Monkey stars Theo James as twin brothers who discover their father’s vintage toy monkey in the attic. Soon after, they start witnessing horrible deaths caused by the cursed item. Years after leaving it behind, they’re forced to return and destroy it once and for all.

As seen in the footage introduced by Perkins, this one will be pretty silly, with loads of over-the-top deaths and macabre situations. The woman in this footage, who is sporting a ridiculous-looking pistol, experiences quite a lot in about four minutes and much of it will make you laugh rather than cover your eyes in fear. Perkins is kind enough to cut things off before anything truly gruesome happens. Gotta save the good stuff for the theater, right?

NEON opens The Monkey in theaters on February 21st and co-stars Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, and Christian Convery.
