James Gunn Teases ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Actors In DCU, Says Dave Bautista Wanted To Play Bane

James Gunn is funny in that he’s both very open with the fans about the projects he’s working on. But at the same time, as co-chief of DC Studios, he has to keep a lot of shit secret. Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn talked about a bunch of projects that fans don’t know anything about, while teasing that some of them will be reunions with his Guardians of the Galaxy crew.

Gunn was asked if he’d cast any actors in DC roles that haven’t been made public yet, and the filmmaker was quick to give it a thumbs up. When pressed on whether any of them were from Guardians of the Galaxy, he again said yes.

“Like actually signed contracts cast or? Yeah, we’ve had real talks, yes,” Gunn said.

While there’s been talk of a Bane & Deathstroke project, Gunn wouldn’t comment on that other than to say that his pal Dave Bautista really wanted to play the infamous breaker of Batman at one point…

“I don’t know if Dave wants to be Bane anymore, he used to want to be Bane, but I think Dave would rather be any other character than Bane right now. I think that’s probably the case, so of course, I love Dave and want to work with him again, but I’m not sure he wants to [play that character] anymore.”

The suggestion is that Bautista, who has slimmed down and toned his body considerably, would rather not have to add pounds of muscular bulk to play Bane. Honestly, I can’t even see him as Bane anymore.

Gunn also said the previously revealed projects Waller, Booster Gold, and Batman: The Brave & the Bold aren’t far enough along to be greenlit yet. He’s currently wrapping up on Superman which opens next summer.

So it remains unclear what Gunn will do following Superman and Peacemaker season two. One thing is for sure, when it’s ready Gunn will be on social media to let us know.

Gunn’s Creature Commandos series is streaming now on Max.
