Zack Snyder’s Next Netflix Movie Is An LAPD Action Flick

The relationship between Zack Snyder and Netflix continues. Despite the poor reaction to Rebel Moon, it hasn’t been all bad. Army of the Dead was well-received, and his animated series Twlight of the Gods has some decent reviews. Now the streamer wants Snyder to take on something a little more grounded, and the kind of movies we’ve never seen him do before.

THR reports Snyder will direct an untitled action movie centered on the LAPD. Snyder will direct and co-write the script with his creative partner Kurt Johnstad, who he worked with on 300, 300: Rise of an Empire, and Rebel Moon.

Plot details are under wraps but the report describes it as being set “in the high-stakes world of life and death and centered on an elite LAPD unit that is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiving collision of law and morality.”

This is easily the most grounded effort from Snyder. No zombies, no superheroes, no talking owls, no interplanetary battles. You may recall that Snyder was one of many names attached to direct S.W.A.T. in 2003, but he passed to work on other projects. It sorta sounds like he’s returning to whatever plans he had back then.

Snyder told THR, “Years ago, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and I had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling and visceral character-driven story set within the intense, complex and captivating landscape of the LAPD. It’s a conversation that has stuck with me. So, as you would expect, I’m very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my amazing partners at Netflix, in developing this story.”

No release date has been set as this is in very early stages, but keep an eye out for more news soon.
