‘The Last Druid’: Russell Crowe Is Back And Battling The Roman Empire Once More

As Gladiator II nears its release this month, original star Russell Crowe is returning to battle Rome once again in a completely different movie. Deadline reports the Oscar-winning actor will lead The Last Druid, a new film from director Will Eubank.

In The Last Druid, a Roman emperor discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia. Crowe will play a peaceful Celtic elder who must take up arms to protect his family and people from annihilation.

Eubank will direct from a script he co-wrote with Phil Gawthorne and his brother Carlyle Eubank. His breakout sci-fi film Love, led to much bigger films such as The Signal, Underwater, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, and most recently Land of Bad which also featured Crowe.

Coming up next for Crowe is co-starring with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, followed by the anticipated historical drama Nuremberg alongside Rami Malek and Michael Shannon. Crowe doesn’t have a role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II but his character, Maximus, is the driving force behind another war against Rome through gladiatorial arena combat.

Expect more casting announcements soon for The Last Druid, because Crowe can’t be expected to take down Rome all by himself again, right?
