New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy In The Works From Simon Kinberg

That disturbance you just felt in the Force? That was Lucasfilm finally beginning development on a new trilogy of Star Wars movies. Deadline reports Simon Kinberg has been tapped to write the new films, and the report states they will be episodes 10, 11, and 12. However, it also says that insiders dispute this notion, so who knows what’s going on?

The hiring of Kinberg is pretty huge, though. He is the guy best known as a creative heavy weight on Fox’s X-Men movies. He wrote, produced, or directed nine of those films, concluding with New Mutants in 2020. He then moved to Marvel Studios where he was an exec-producer on Deadpool & Wolverine. But Kinberg was also a co-creator of the hugely popular Star Wars Rebels animated series that continues to drive so many of the current storylines.

Lucasfilm has a lot on its plate. After being reluctant to announce anything for a while, they’ve given Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu a May 2026 release date. They also have James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi, Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie, a Lando project with Donald Glover, plus possible films from Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy, Dave Filoni, and more.

Coming up first for Kinberg is producing Edgar Wright’s The Running Man reboot with Glen Powell.

The best news to come out of this is Lucasfilm finally learning to have one writer on the next trilogy rather than a bunch of them with conflicting ideas.
