When we think of Will Smith the action star, probably the Bad Boys movies are first in mind. With the success of Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die bringing Smith back to his former glory, he’s looking to reunite with the man who helped define the early films, and the action genre itself: Michael Bay.
Deadline reports Bay is in talks to direct the Netflix actioner, Fast and Loose, which has Smith attached to star. Penned by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson, the story “follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.”
The film has David Leitch (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train) aboard as a producer, which should give you an idea what to expect. Leitch and Smith have been developing the project for a few years. Netflix acquired it after working with Smith on Bright.
Smith and Bay have worked together on 1995’s Bad Boys and 2003’s Bad Boys II. While they’ve remained in touch over the years, they haven’t officially teamed up on a new project. Fast and Loose is expected to be the next film for them both. Bay’s most recent film was 2019’s 6 Underground, also for Netflix, and the less said about that one the better. It’s clear the streamer still has their sights set on the kind of four-quadrant blockbuster spectacles that only Bay can provide.
