Compared to what awaits Daniel Ezra in Edgar Wright’s reimagining of The Running Man, breaking tackles and scoring touchdowns on CW series All American will seem like nothing. Deadline reports Ezra has landed a role in Wright’s new take on the Stephen King novel, led by Glen Powell and co-starring Katy O’Brian.
Ezra is best known for his role as star running back and wide receiver Spencer James on the CW shows All American and spinoff All American: Homecoming, the latter having just concluded its third and final season last month.
The Running Man is based on the Stephen King novel penned under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. Wright co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall. Powell takes on the role of Ben Richards, a part made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action classic. Wright’s film will be more faithful to the book, which takes the action to a global level. The story takes place in a dystopian future where the economy is in ruins, and people compete in deadly reality competition shows to win money. Richards enters the contest to win money to save his sick daughter, but can only win if he survives a night against the Hunters, an elite pack of hitmen sent to kill him.
It’s unclear Ezra’s role, so maybe he’s playing one of the Hunters? Or perhaps a role similar to the one played by Yaphet Kotto in the movie? This will his first major big screen role.
Paramount will release The Running Man on November 21st 2025.
