Salem’s Lot is a contender for Stephen King‘s most terrifying story, make no mistake. Sure, It, The Shining, Carrie, they all get the most fanfare but when it comes to classic, visceral horror it’s Salem’s Lot all the way.
The story of a man returning to his hometown to slowly discover a growing vampire infestation, King’s novel has already been adapted twice…and that’s where the problems with its popularity have come in. To be blunt, many of the King adaptations were crap. Hell, even It (the 1990 TV movie with Tim Curry, not the recent adaptation) was poorly acted and looked cheap, but both of the ‘Lot’ takes were boundary pushingly forgettable. I’ve been dying to see what the latest take, which is premiering October 3rd on Max, would look like.
My patience, it seems, has paid off because the trailer that was just released paints a picture of pure terror. These are not Twilight vamps…no, these are blood-sucking succubae from hell, pure and simple. The money was DEFINITELY spent on production this time around and with a cast composed of Lewis Pullman, Bill Camp, and Alfre Woodard it’s obvious that performance won’t be an issue either. Don’t take my word for it, check out the trailer below and look for Salem’s Lot on MAX, October 3rd.
