‘The Apprentice’ Trailer: Sebastian Stan Is Donald Trump In Controversial Film Arriving Before The Election

The most controversial movie of the year isn’t even in theaters yet, and has only played at a couple of major film festivals. That would be The Apprentice, about the early career of Donald Trump as he was becoming a celebrity and a real estate mogul. The film also focuses on the young Trump and his relationship with cutthroat attorney Roy Cohn, and reportedly delves into his physical transformation, pill-popping, and physical abuse of ex-wife Ivana Trump. Trump stupidly drew more attention to the film, which was struggling to find stateside distribution, by complaining about it and threatening legal action.

However, today we know The Apprentice will be released in theaters on October 11th through distributor Briarcliff Entertainment. The film’s big draw is the lead performance by Emmy nominee Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump, with , Emmy winner Jeremy Strong (Succession) as Roy Cohn, Martin Donovan (Tenet) as Fred Trump Sr, and Maria Bakalova (Bodies Bodies Bodies) as Ivana Trump.

Screenwriter Gabe Sherman previously wrote The Loudest Voice in the Room, about Fox News creator and CEO Roger Ailes. The film was directed by Ali Abbasi, who has worked on episodes of HBO’s The Last of Us.

SYNOPSIS: A young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé—someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Arriving less than a month before the Presidential election, expect The Apprentice to spark furious debate and an endless amount of whining from Trump and his cohorts.
