‘The Room Next Door’ Teaser: Pedro Almodóvar’s English-Language Debut Stars Julianne Moore And Tilda Swinton

Pedro Almodóvar is one of the greatest filmmakers in the world, and every time he has a new project it’s likely to come away with loads of accolades, as his last film Parallel Mothers did. He’s also one of the few international filmmakers who is as respected here as he is around the world. But can you believe he’s never done an English-language film before? Well, that changes with The Room Next Door, which opens this holiday season.

As seen in the new teaser, The Room Next Door stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore as two women who were best friends when they were younger. But now as adult women leading very different lives, circumstances have brought them back together.

Almodóvar directed and wrote the screenplay, centering the story on the lives of women, a recurring theme throughout his career.

Also in the cast are John Turturro, Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, Raúl Arévalo, Victoria Luengo, Alex Hogh Andersen, Esther McGregor, Alvise Rigo, and Melina Matthews.

Sony Pictures Classics will release The Room Next Door on December 20th.

SYNOPSIS: Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
