Admittedly, I know next to nothing about Peaky Blinders, the British crime drama series from Steven Knight that ran for six seasons on Netflix. Pretty much every English actor has passed through the show during its acclaimed run, and with a feature film on the way the cast is growing in star power quickly. With Rebecca Ferguson recently joining the ensemble, THR reports Oscar-nominee Barry Keoghan has signed on.
After buzzy performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, Keoghan is on fire right now. He joins the Peaky Blinders film which brings back series star Cillian Murphy as gangster Thomas Shelby. The story, penned by Knight, will take place during WWII. Tom Harper returns to direct.
Peaky Blinders is going to have a lot more attention on it now that Murphy has won the Best Actor Academy Award for his Oppenheimer performance. With Ferguson and Keoghan aboard, it’s clear Netflix has big plans for the film to be a hit with more than just fans of the series.
Coming up for Keoghan is Andrea Arnold’s Bird, which debuted this year at Cannes. He also has Bring Them Down, a thriller from writer/director Christopher Andrews, and the new untitled movie from Trey Edward Shults.
