Two movies that get name-checked in the latest trailer for Crime 101 are The Thomas Crown Affair and Bullitt. The first, about a high-class art thief, the second is a Steve McQueen classic known for some of the best car chases ever put to screen. An appropriate couple of flicks, considering they were clearly major influences on the Don Winslow adaptation hitting theaters next month.
Chris Hemsworth stars in Crime 101 as an elusive jewel thief, known for pulling heists along the 101 freeway that have perplexed detectives. While plotting the score of a lifetime, his path intersects with a disillusioned insurance broker played by Halle Berry. Mark Ruffalo is the dogged detective hot on his trail, and believes he’s figured out the pattern to crack the case.
Writer/director Bart Layton has impressed with another movie about pulling off a shocking crime, 2018’s American Animals. But Crime 101 is the biggest project of his career, with the cast to match. Surrounding the main trio is a top-notch supporting cast of Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.
Amazon MGM Studios will release Crime 101 in theaters on February 13th.
