- Deadpool & Wolverine– $54.1M/$494.3M
Yes, Deadpool & Wolverine took the #1 spot for a third week in a row, but at what cost? I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the Reynolds household this weekend as ‘Deadpool‘s win comes at the expense of Mrs. Reynolds, aka the amazing Blake Lively and her new release this weekend. On the positive side, this week saw Red/Yellow cross that fabled billion dollar mark worldwide. Take that superhero movie fatigue!
2. It Ends With Us (Review)-$50M
Yes, Blake LIvely may have lost out to the Merc with a Mouth aka Hubby, and the Clawed Canadian but bringing in almost $50M on a romatic drama in your opening weekend is nothing to be ashamed of. Any other weekend and this is the #1 movie. Man….America REALLY loves that couple.
3. Twisters – $15M/$222.2M
4. Borderlands (Review) – $8.8M
This may seem bad, and it is, but considering the critical reception (9% currently at Rotten Tomatoes) and poor word of mouth they should feel lucky for getting what they got. This really felt like 5 step backwards for the world of video game adaptations. Lesson to be learned, don’t change what made the thing special in the first place!
5. Despicable Me 4– $8M/$330.1M
6. Trap– $6.7M/$28.7M
7. Inside Out 2 – $14.9M/$636.4M
Sure, everyone’s talking about Deadpool & Wolverine now, but they have a long way to go to catch up to what will likely be THE movie of the summer. The numbers on this film still amaze me. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good flick…but a billion dollars good? Toy Story 2 good? I guess that’s my lesson for the week, never underestimate the economic power of children and their parents desperate for a break!
8. Harold and the Purple Crayon– $3.1M/$12.8M
9. Cuckcoo (Review) – $3M
10. Longlegs – $2M/$71.2M
