Following yesterday’s news that John Crowley’s We Live in Time will have its world premiere at TIFF in September, A24 has debuted the first trailer. The drama stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, both Academy Award nominees, and looks like a film that will tear at the heartstrings in just about every way imaginable. Much like Crowley’s breakthrough film, Best Picture nominee Brooklyn, did in 2015.
In the trailer, we see Garfield as Tobias and Pugh as Almut, literally on a collision course. He wakes up in a hospital, sporting a neckbrace, only to find out that it was her who hit him with her car. Despite this odd meet-cute, the two hit it off and begin to form a life together. We see flashes of their blissful relationship, including her pregnancy and becoming parents. But the good times end when Almut is given a medical diagnosis that changes everything.
The film has a script by Nick Payne (Wanderlust), with Benedict Cumberbatch aboard as an exec-producer.
We Live in Time opens in select theaters on October 11th, and look for it to be a major awards season player.
