As if I didn’t have enough constant reminders that I’m getting up there in age, Focus Features decided to announce today that Edgar Wright’s iconic rom-zom-com (look it up) Shaun of the Dead will be returning to theaters on August 29th in celebration of it’s 20th anniversary.
The film, which will be showing exclusively at Dolby Cinema at AMC Theaters, isn’t just the pre-emanate horror comedy AND a driving reason for the Zombie resurgence/craze of the aughts. No, it’s most important contribution to film is bringing us the holy trinity of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. While they are beloved I honestly don’t think they get the credit they deserve when it comes to their influence on the zeitgeist. You have to remember 2004 was right when public opinion on being geeky started to sway. It was guys like Wright, Pegg, and Frost that made sure that pendulum swung far enough to get stuck permanently on the “let your geek flag fly!” side.
Shaun of the Dead returns to theaters from August 29th to September 5th, 2024. Check your local AMC theaters to find a participating location or just go here to get your tickets!
