I’ve said it before on this site, but Brad Anderson is one of my favorite directors who doesn’t get the deserved credit. With interesting films to his credit including Transsiberian (I love this one), The Machinist, and Beirut, not to mention his charming debut Next Stop Wonderland, Anderson is remarkably consistent. And now he’s back with something that looks very different for him, The Silent Hour, a crime film starring Joel Kinnaman.
Kinnaman stars as a Boston police detective adjusting to life with major hearing loss after an on-the-job accident. One of his first big case upon returning is to protect a deaf murder witness from corrupt cops out to kill her.
Anderson directs from a script by Dan Hall. Joining Kinnaman in the cast are Mark Strong, Sandra Mae Frank, and Mekhi Phifer.
Kinnaman seems to have found a niche in thrillers featuring physically impaired characters in action movies. He recently starred as a mute man seeking vengeance in Silent Night.
SYNOPSIS: Boston Detective Frank Shaw (Joel Kinnaman) returns to duty after a career-altering injury leaves him with permanent hearing loss. Tasked with interpreting for Ava Fremont (Sandra Mae Frank), a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, they find themselves cornered in a soon-to-be-condemned apartment building when the killers return to eliminate her. Cut off from the outside world, these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive.
The Silent Hour hits theaters and VOD on October 11th.
