Next ‘Minions’ Film Set For June 2027

With Despicable Me 4 continuing to reign at the box office with $438M worldwide, and Illumination’s franchise surpassing $5B overall, it’s no shock Universal has dated their next movie. Minions 3 will hit theaters on June 30th 2027.

The first Minions movie debuted in 2015 as a prequel to Despicable Me, and scored a massive $1.1B box office. The sequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru, opened in 2015 and hit $940M.

The threequel will have a script by Brian Lynch, writer of Minions and the Secret Life of Pets movies. Oscar nominee Pierre Coffin returns to direct, having helmed the first three Despicable Me films as well as the first Minions. He’s also been the voice of the banana-devouring mischief makers since the beginning.

The first two movies followed early adventures with a young Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), but it’s unclear if this next Minions movie will be another prequel. [Deadline]
