‘Resistor’: Will Smith To Star In Sony’s Sci-Fi Action Film

It wasn’t that long ago when Hollywood wanted nothing to do with Will Smith. He had just laid the smackdown on Chris Rock, and suddenly nobody would come near him. But those times are over. Smith is riding high again on the box office of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and Sony Pictures is now looking to him to lead a new sci-fi action film, titled Resistor.

Smith will star in Resistor, an adaptation of the novel Influx by author Daniel Suarez. The story follows a physicist who discovers a way to reflect gravity, a groundbreaking triumph that will change the future. But rather than being met with acclaim, his lab is attacked by a covert organization with aims to suppress technological progress.

Zak Olkewicz wrote the first script draft, with Eric Warren Singer penning the most recent. There is no director attached yet, and there may be time to wait on that. Deadline‘s report says that Resistor is unlikely to be the next film for Smith. Perhaps he’ll try to squeeze in a fifth Bad Boys movie first?
