‘The Outrun’ Trailer: Saoirse Ronan Is On The Path To Recovery In Acclaimed Addiction Drama

Saoirse Ronan has debuted multiple films at the Sundance Film Festival, including Brooklyn which earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination and Best Actress for her. This year she returned with The Outrun, an addiction drama that earned solid reviews at the festival, including from our own writer Cortland Jacoby. While the film has yet to gain a U.S. release date, it’s set to hit the UK this fall.

The Outrun is directed and co-written by Nora Fingscheidt, known for the Sandra Bullock drama The Unforgiveable. Ronan stars as a woman fresh out of rehab who returns to her home off the Scottish coast to finally deal with her troubled past.

Fingscheidt co-wrote the script with Amy Liptrot, author of the book and based on her personal story of recovery.

The film also stars Nabil Elouahabi, Izuka Hoyle, Lauren Lyle. Saskia Reeves and Stephen Dillane.

Here’s the synopsis: Saoirse Ronan stars as Rona, who, fresh out of rehab, returns to the Orkney Islands; a place both wild and beautiful right off the Scottish coast. After more than a decade of living life on the edge in London, where she both found and lost love, Rona – now 30 – attempts to come to terms with her troubled past. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her traumatic childhood merge with more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.

Ronan is one of the finest actors in the world, and by all accounts she knocks it out of the park here. The Outrun will certainly gain a release date soon, likely in the thick of awards season.
