‘Moana 2’ Teaser: Dwayne Johnson And Auliʻi Cravalho Reunite For A New Seafaring Adventure

Disney has revealed a new teaser for their upcoming sequel, Moana 2, and if it seems fast given the film was only announced back in February, there’s a reason for that. The film began life as a series for Disney+, back when the company focus was on streaming during the pandemic. But the business has changed, Disney CEO Bob Iger decided to turn what they had already done into a theatrical feature. Will audiences care about all of that? Probably not, because Moana was one of Disney’s most beloved animated features in years with $687M worldwide earned.

The sequel sees Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson reprising their voice roles as Moana and the powerhouse demigod Maui. Picking up three years later, the story reunites Moana and Maui “for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”

Directing the film are David Derrick Jr., who worked on Raya and the Last Dragon, along with co-directors Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller. The sequel also has music by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.

Moana 2 opens in theaters on Thanksgiving weekend, November 27th, one of the biggest box office dates of the year. And let’s not forget the live-action Moana remake which will arrive in 2026.
