Robert Downey Jr. Would Be “Happy” For An MCU Return As Tony Stark

Robert Downey Jr. was eager to leave the MCU before he finally did at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Just weeks ago, he won a long-deserved first Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer. And maybe it’s because he’s achieved that moment of professional recognition that Downey has begun talking about a return to the role of Tony Stark.

Speaking with Esquire, Downey said he’d be happy to return to the MCU while also praising Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige for his accomplishments…

“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Based on what Downey said, it sounds like Feige is slowly but surely working him over to make a comeback. Now, Feige has also said they’ll never undo Stark’s sacrifice, which is the most crucial moment in all of the MCU thus far. But Stark could easily be seen again in flashback, or through time travel, alternate universes, etc.  Does anyone truly believe we’ll never see Stark again? Come on now.

Downey will be seen next in Park Chan-wook’s HBO series The Sympathizer, debuting on April 14th.
