James Gunn took to social media to do what he often likes to do, which is keep his fans up to date. It’s one of the reasons why he’s so popular. Today, Gunn was announcing the start of production on…well, it used to be called Superman: Legacy. But it was part of Gunn’s announcement that the anticipated launch film of the new DCU had undergone a title change…
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” wrote Gunn in his post. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
Yes, the film starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan is now simply titled Superman. I think it’s a bold, smart choice that promises a Man of Steel story that everybody can understand.
But Gunn wasn’t done. He also revealed an up close shot of the Superman costume and logo, covered in snow drift. Looks like someone has been spending time at the Fortress of Solitude!
Opening on July 11th 2025, Superman stars David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardiner, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.
