Oxygen is rare and Jennifer Hudson is fighting for all that’s left in the post-apocalyptic thriller, Breathe. The film stars Hudson alongside her current partner, Common, plus Beasts of the Southern Wild‘s Quvenzhané Wallis, Milla Jojovich, Raúl Castillo and Sam Worthington.
In the new trailer, we see Hudson as Maya, who is forced to live underground when the Earth is depleted of oxygen. They can make trips up to the surface using a special machine designed by her husband, who is presumed dead. Things get scarier than they already are when a mysterious couple arrives, and Maya allows them into their bunker.
The film is directed by Stefon Bristol, who made a splash a few years ago with the Netflix time travel film, See You Yesterday.
Here’s the official synopsis: Breathe is a heart pounding thriller set in the future. After Earth is left uninhabitable due to lack of oxygen, a mother Maya (Hudson) and her daughter Zora (Wallis) are forced to live underground, with short trips to the surface only made possible by a coveted state of the art oxygen suit made by Maya’s husband, Darius, whom she presumes to be dead. When a mysterious couple arrives claiming to know Darius and his fate, Maya tentatively agrees to let them into their bunker but these visitors are not who they claim to be ensuing in mother and daughter fighting for survival.
Breathe opens in theaters and On Demand on April 26th.
