The Golden Globes Have Been Sold, And The HFPA Is No More

Say “goodbye” to the Golden Globes as we knew them…and it’s probably for the best. The Golden Globes have been acquired by Dick Clark Productions with Todd Boehly’s Eldridge, and the maligned Hollywood Foreign Press Association is being dissolved. So long to bad rubbish.

The HFPA has had a rough go of it lately. Remember, they lost their broadcast network for the awards when it was revealed they had absolutely no members of color. That suspension didn’t last long. While the 2022 ceremony was untelevised, NBC brought it back in January 2023 with no shortage of controversy.

So what does this mean for the Golden Globes going forward? Well, the HFPA’s philanthropic efforts will continue as part of a new non-profit. The Golden Globes and its former members will now become part of a new for-profit entity that will look to expand the brand’s commerical endeavors. In other words, the Golden Globes will continue on in a somewhat different form. Dick Clark Productions has been producing the telecast since the ’90s anyway, so this isn’t a huge change from that perspective. And honestly, most of us watch the Globes to see the actors get drunk, anyway. [Variety]
