‘Reality’ Trailer: Sydney Sweeney Is Whistleblower Reality Winner In HBO’s Max Film Later This Month

Hot off of its world premiere at Berlinale, the HBO whistleblower biopic Reality is set to hit Max later this month. The film stars Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney as Reality Winner, the US Air Force member and NSA translator who leaked a single-page document exposing Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential election. For that, she was sentenced to five years in prison, the longest-ever sentence for leaking government information to the media.

Sweeney is red-hot right now with roles in the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web and the rom-com Anyone But You with Glen Powell. But Reality offers Sweeney the chance to show off her dramatic skills, while also offering her the chance to transform into a very different type of character.

The film is directed and co-written by Tina Satter, adapting her own stageplay which was based on transcripts of the FBI’s interrogation of Winner. Also in the cast are Marchant Davis and Josh Hamilton.

Reality will hit Max on May 29th.

On June 3, 2017, 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist Reality Winner (Sydney Sweeney) is confronted by FBI agents arriving at her home to question her suspected role in the mishandling of classified information. Based on true events, the film’s dialogue is directly from the transcript of their tense and transfixing conversation.
