Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie are two Oscar-winning actresses who were, at different points in their careers, the biggest female action stars with franchises that never got off the ground. Berry was primed for a return as the spy Jinx following Die Another Day, but those plans collapsed. Jolie was the centerpiece of the hit film, Wanted, and circled a sequel for years before finally giving up. So in a way, it feels long overdue that Berry and Jolie are teaming up on a spy vs. spy movie.
Deadline confirms that Berry and Jolie will star in Maude v Maude, a global spy thriller from Kiwi director Roseanne Liang. Liang is known for her 2020 action-horror Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloe Grace Moretz.
The screenplay is by Kevin Smith pal and SModcast alum, Scott Mosier.
Warner Bros. went all-in to outbid others for Maude v Maude, although it does sorta feel like a major star vehicle from a decade ago. Then again, with John Wick (which Berry is a part of) and James Bond more popular than ever, the time might be right for something like this.
