Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ Adds ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Writer Josh Friedman

Marvel is bringing on a new writer to bolster their upcoming Fantastic Four film, which is still slated to begin production in early 2024. And when that writer penned the box office-shattering Avatar: The Way of Water, you know Marvel is pulling out all of the stops.

THR reports that The Way of Water writer Josh Friedman has been hired to write Fantastic Four. The previous draft had been penned by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, but apparently, Marvel feels that it needed some help. What’s unclear is if Friedman is starting over from scratch or just doing a rewrite.

My guess is that Friedman is starting from square one. He’s got more of a sci-fi background than Kaplan and Springer, having co-written 2005’s War of the Worlds and developed the Snowpiercer television series. He also created the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles television series that got him in James Cameron’s good graces.

Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is still aboard to direct Fantastic Four which is slated to open on February 14th 2025.
