The Joke Gets Real in the Red Band Trailer for ‘The Machine’

You would think that it would be easy to tell if a movie as wild as The Machine was based in any level of fact…turns out the part about him telling this story on stage is legit. Bert Kreischer, the focus of the upcoming comedy, has lived a life. For a little background, he got his start when he was named the country’s top partier while attending FSU in 1997, he was the inspiration for the Ryan Reynolds classic National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, so needless to say there’s not much you can put past this guy.

The Machine sees Bert faced with his past. After re-telling a story from his college days on stage, in particular a story where he somehow gets mixed up with the Russian mob and ends up committing a big robbery on a train, those he stole from have come back to collect. Unfortunately for Bert and his father, they come for him during his kid’s birthday party and kidnap not just Bert, but his father (played hilariously by Mark Hamill). The trailer just oozes fun and honestly I’m already in line for a ticket but that’s not even the best part. No, the best part is seeing Hamill get to shine on screen in a non-Star Wars, non-pop culture related role. The guy is hilarious yet he doesn’t get much work outside of the expected. He is universally loved, he should be in everything, maybe The Machine will prove that to people.
