The Monster Under Your Bed Is All Too Real In The Trailer For ‘The Boogeyman’

As long as their have been kids and bedrooms there have been tales of monsters hiding in those closets and under those beds. It’s become such a widely known and accepted fear that we’ve pretty much defanged the idea. Monsters Inc proved that, if something is made into a Pixar film it can no longer be considered terrifying. Side note, I have to correct myself because there is an injustice no one likes to talk about, Monsters Inc is a ripped off idea, do yourself a favor and rent Little Monsters starring Howie Mandel and Fred Savage and then try to argue that point with me.

I digress, as I was saying the idea is no longer terrifying…or at least it wasn’t. There’s only one name that can take something as mundane as the monster under the bed and make it scary again…Stephen King. Yes, like a macabre Avenger he comes to save the unscary to return it to its former glory with the short story on which this film was based.

The Boogeyman a new horror film from 20th Century Fox and “from the mind of” Stephen King seeks to make you think twice about that closet being empty. Siblings Sadie and Sawyer, while grieving their recently passed mother, start to realize that there’s more to their perception of a monster in the closet then just an overactive adolescent imagination. The two minute trailer below should paint a picture that will have you second guessing leaving your foot out from under the covers at night. Terrifying in atmosphere alone I can’t imagine what the end result will be with the entity front and center. Almost as if to solidify my longing to see this film we get a quick shot of the amazing David Dastmalchian who apparently plays a mentally disturbed man that inadvertently (?) delivers the malevolent entity to the house.

All I know is that once I see this movie, my kids are on their own to check their closets and under their beds.

The Boogeyman opens in theaters on June 2nd, 2023
