‘Wednesday’: Christina Ricci Joins ‘The Addams Family’ Spinoff As A New Character

And suddenly, I have reason to care about  Wednesday, Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family spinoff coming to Netflix. When the series was announced, I think all of us hoped Christina Ricci, who played the morbid youngster in The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values in the early ’90s, would somehow be part of the cast. Well, our wish has come true thanks to a new report from Deadline.

Ricci has joined the cast of Wednesday, and no, she isn’t playing Wednesday Addams. That role has gone to Scream and X actress Jenna Ortega. Instead, Ricci will play a brand new character, reportedly the one originally set for Thora Birch before she bailed. That kinda sucks, but this is still pretty cool.

Also in the cast are Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzman as Gomez, and Gwendoline Christie as Wednesday’s teacher, Larissa Weems. The series comes from Al Gough and Miles Millar, best known for Smallville, and will be directed by Burton.

Ricci has been busy of late, starring in the buzzworthy Yellowjackets series. She also had a role recently in The Matrix Resurrections.

Wednesday is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
