‘It’ Prequel Series ‘Welcome To Derry’ In The Works For HBO Max

Say what you want about WarnerMedia but they are making the most out of HBO Max. The streaming service has become the home for spinoffs that expand on their vast library of branded content, and now you can add Stephen King’s It to the list. First reported by The Ankler and now confirmed by Variety, an It prequel series titled Welcome to Derry is in the works.

Details on the show state that it will begin in the 1960s and lead up to the events in 2017’s It: Part One, based on King’s novel. Also included will be the origin story of Pennywise the Clown, the demonic entity that feeds on the children of Derry.

On board is It director Andy Muschietti as exec-producer, along with Barbara Muschietti and screenwriter Jason Fuchs. All helped develop the story with Fuchs writing the scripts. Will there be a place for Bill Skarsgard to reprise his unforgettable performance as Pennywise? That much we don’t know for now.
